A lot of confusion about this Didymos limited edition. Pesci Pazzi means crazy fish and the first swatch showed fish that swam to the left. Were these fish crazy because they swam the other way? The wrap appeared to be a beautiful fuchsia colour. But later it turned out there was nothing crazy about these fish, except maybe that they are another purple fish wrap. The exact same colour as Latimeria, Elburg and Malawi. So now we have four purple cotton fish wraps with the exact same purple thread and different weft colours (dark blue, white, green and fuchsia).
This new Didymos limited edition is special: it was one of the entries for the design contest that Didymos organized a few months ago. The mama who made this design submitted a beautiful drawing. She was offered the chance to choose the colours, so she chose the perfect vibrant green! There are lovely pictures up on her blog.
Ginkgo arrived here today and I tried to take some pictures. I admit that I failed terribly. This wrap is so much prettier in real life; the pictures really don't do it justice.
I would say this is a rather thin wrap, perfect for spring and summer. It weighs 688 grams for a size 6.
This 100% cotton Didymos Nautilus aqua is even prettier in real life. It has this amazing sheen and the colours are very bold. Feels rather thin. I forgot to weigh them before I sold them, I'm sorry!
An unexpected surprise release: Pfau violet with 50% linen. The linen yarn is the same as Pfau ecru with linen. These Pfaus are inverse from all the other linen Pfaus. And they are woven with two colours instead of three: the usual black thread is missing.
According to Didymos these Pfaus were not planned. They were supposed to be Pfau ecru but the wrong yarn was used on the loom. I love the way this 'accident' turned out!
Also special: mamas in the USA had their Pfaus sooner than mamas in Europe. That must have made a lot of overseas mamas very happy.
The very first Didymos limited edition with hemp: Didymos Grass! Some time ago I suggested a coloured hemp Indio to Didymos. I know it's difficult, expensive and not environmentally friendly to dye hemp. So I suggested using coloured cotton and natural undyed hemp. And here it is! The colour is very hard to capture, but I've tried.
I'd say this is on the thin side, especially for a hemp. The weight is 781 grams for a size 6. It's not stiff at all, it feels rather moldable right out of the box. I'm sure it will soften up nicely after a wash, a (steam) iron and some use.
Confusing: Didymos stated on their website that the label was wrong: it's 50% hemp instead of 40%. But then the label on the box also says 40%? The box label is usually right...
[edit 2011-04-04] I have asked Didymos and they have confirmed that Indio Grass is definitely made of 50% hemp and 50% organic cotton.
I'm sure there are many ways to support the head of a baby while s/he is sleeping on your back. This is my favourite one. I prefer to use a doll wrap (also because I don't own any scarfs).
But I must admit that my addiction is getting worse. I'm addicted to doll wraps now, too. My kids' stash is almost the same size as my own stash...
